Adam Greenbaum MBBS, MBA, PhD, FRCS (Plast), EBOPRAS
Consultant Aesthetic, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon
I grew up in South East London, took time off to travel and then attended the Medical School of St. Bartholomew’s Hospital in the City of London. I now practice as a Consultant Plastic Surgeon in South East London’s Teaching Hospitals: Guy’s, St. Thomas’ and King’s College.
I have trained extensively in the UK and abroad. Plastic Surgeons who train in the UK, work first in General Surgery and during this time in my training, I embarked upon a period of original research for which I gained a PhD thesis and was honoured by the award of a Hunterian Professorship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England. After gaining the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS), I went on to complete my specialist training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, gaining the Specialist Intercollegiate Fellowship to become Board Certified in the UK (ISB) and Europe (EBOPRAS) in 2003. I am listed on the GMC specialist register (number 3260441) (GMC). I am a member of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) and an International Member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS).
My NHS practice involves General Plastic and Trauma Reconstructive Surgery. I have a joint appointment to work with colleagues in the St John's Institute of Dermatology and participate in Specialist Clinics dealing with treatment and reconstruction after Melanoma and Non-melanoma skin cancers and for children and adults with pigmented and vascular skin blemishes, both at St Thomas’ and King’s College Hospitals. I also run the Plastic Surgery laser service at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals and have clinical and research interests in breast reduction surgery and surgical rejuvenation after weight loss. I am an active clinical researcher and my work is published extensively and cited in peer-review scientific and surgical journals.
My private practice is based in Harley Street. My aesthetic expertise lies in surgical and non-surgical rejuvenation of the face, breasts and abdomen – including body-contouring surgery. In recent years I have developed a special interest in the cosmetic improvement of patients after dramatic weight loss either through dieting or gastric reduction surgery. These patients often have multiple problem areas that require specialized cosmetic techniques applied alone and in combination to remove their excess skin and soft tissues in order to improve both their appearance and their self-esteem.
I am driven to stay at the forefront of my specialty and I am proud to have been invited recently to write a new chapter on diseases of the skin in the new edition of “Bailey and Love” – one of the World’s most successful surgical textbooks having sold over a million copies. I travel frequently to attend international symposia and meetings, and to observe international colleagues: learning what is new, what works and what does not. Likewise I welcome colleagues from the UK and abroad to visit and observe my practice here in London.
I am registered with most health insurance providers, and where patients would rather not have NHS treatment for reasons of choice or convenience, I will treat suitable patients in a private setting, for skin cancer or reconstructive and other General Plastic Surgery procedures.
